As a small business, one of the most important sources of new clients is the internet.  More and more, potential customers are turning to the internet to find businesses to perform a wide variety of goods and services.  And you may have a website—but it doesn’t do you any good if nobody sees it.  So how does a small business drive traffic to their website?  Below are three great ways to bring potential customers to your site:

1)      Blogging.  Blogging is a hot trend for business owners these days for a variety of reasons.  One of the best reasons to blog, however, is that it dramatically increases your visibility to the search engines.  Google and the other major search engines value content highly, and blogging allows you to produce an unlimited amount.  With a website, you have a handful of pages for Google to pick up—with a blog, you potentially have hundreds of pages.  Whether you create a blog on your website or you blog at a separate platform like Blogger or WordPress, blogging will dramatically increase your visibility and therefore the traffic to your website.

2)      Articles.  Following the same principle that we discussed above, writing and submitting articles to free directories such as Ezine or GoArticles allows you to produce significantly more content than you have on your website.  But in addition to simply increasing your search engine visibility, writing and publishing articles allows you to demonstrate your expertise in your industry.  A diverse portfolio of published articles gives you instant validation as an expert in your field.  That makes your company much more appealing to potential customers—because after all, who doesn’t want to work with an expert?  Not only can writing and publishing articles increase traffic to your website, it can also help you establish your credibility and expertise.

3)      Social Media.  The recent surge in popularity of social media such as Facebook and Twitter is more than just a trend—it is a potential source of traffic to your website.  Most people, especially younger adults, spend substantial amounts of time on Facebook and Twitter.  By creating a presence on these two social media sites, you are putting your business in the center of the online conversation.  As you know, a great source of new business is word-of-mouth—and sites like Facebook and Twitter can create a virtual word-of-mouth scenario as you accumulate followers.  In addition, once you have a number of followers, you can drive them to your website by offering sales and other special opportunities.  Social media is a great way to increase the visibility of your small business and drive traffic to your website.

Having a great website for your business won’t help you unless potential customers find it.  Blogging, publishing articles and creating a social media presence are three great ways to increase your visibility and drive traffic to your website.
